Before we even had a chance to get rid of the aftertaste left by Baz Luhrmann Elvis starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks in his worst career, A24 has announced its own biopic about the King of Rock from the perspective of his wife Priscilla Presley, and directed by none other than writer/director Sofia Coppola (lost in translation, The bling ring, seduced him).
An adaptation of the best-selling memoirs of 1985 Elvis and me written by Priscilla Presley, A24 and Coppola’s next project will feature Australian Jacob Elordi (Euphoria) like Elvis himself opposite fellow HBO talent Cailee Spaeny (Easttown Mare, Bad weather at the El Royale) as the iconic singer’s better half.

“Insiders say Sofia Coppola had been watching this movie for a while as she followed up on On the rocks and began putting the pieces of the film together this fall,” reveals Justin Kroll of Deadline.
“While she met a number of actors for the role of Elvis – with Jacob Elordi eventually landing the coveted role – Cailee Spaeny was her first choice from day one for the role of Priscilla.”
By all accounts, this has also been something on the radar for Elordi, who previously explained how an old interview with Elvis made him feel deeply connected to his own Hollywood experiences.
“He was talking and he was so lovely to the press, but you could tell in his eyes he was just tired,” Jacob Elordi said.
“He’s like, ‘I’m tired, man. I only sleep four, five hours, I’m tired. It’s really sad for me, because it’s a different time and he’s someone who’s gone 10 billion times all i’ve been through but the same kind of feeling.

Sofia Coppola would team up with a handful of longtime collaborators, including:
- Director of photography Philippe Le Sourd
- Costume designer Stacey Battat
- Editor Sarah Flack
- production designer Tamara Deverell
Coppola will also produce alongside Youree Henley, Lorenzo Mieli of The Apartment, a Fremantle Company, and American Zoetrope; with funding from The Apartment and Sony’s Stage 6 Films. Production is set to start later this year in Toronto – get those tax incentives – meaning we shouldn’t expect to see anything until late 2023/early 2024.
Keep an eye on the A24s Priscilla with Jacob Elordi and Cailee Spaeny.
